Advisory Network Member, ESRC Project on Hazardous Sanitation Labor in Bangladesh - December 2022 to June 2025

Our commitment to addressing hazardous sanitation labor extends beyond borders. In this noteworthy initiative, CLJ serves as an Advisory Network Member for the ESRC Project on Hazardous Sanitation Labor in Bangladesh, led by Lancaster University's esteemed Lecturer, Dr. Sally Cawood.
Here is a brief outline of our roles and contributions:

Crucial
Engagement:

We are actively engaged in this critical project, which delves into the challenging conditions of manual scavenging in Bangladesh. Our involvement underscores our dedication to promoting safer and more dignified working conditions for sanitation workers.

Feedback and
Accountability:

As Advisory Network Members, we play a pivotal role in offering valuable feedback and insights. We ensure accountability in the project's objectives and methodologies, contributing to the project's integrity and effectiveness.

Dissemination and
Application:

Our commitment extends beyond discussions; we actively participate in the dissemination of research findings. Our goal is to ensure that the knowledge and insights gained from this project are applied in practical ways that enhance the safety and employment conditions of sanitation workers in Bangladesh.

Through our advisory role in this initiative, we are steadfast in our mission to improve the lives and working conditions of sanitation workers, not only in Pakistan but also in neighboring regions. We believe in the power of collaborative efforts to effect meaningful change, and this project exemplifies our dedication to that cause.

Advisory Committee Member, Initiative for Sanitation Workers (ISW) - February 2021 – Present

As a dedicated member of the advisory committee for the Initiative for Sanitation Workers (ISW), a collaborative project involving the World Bank, International Labor Organization (ILO), World Health Organization (WHO), WaterAid, and SNV, our role extends far and wide.
Here's how we contribute to this vital initiative:

Advocating for
Rights:

Our primary goal within the ISW is to champion the rights of sanitation workers. We work tirelessly to ensure that these rights find a prominent place on government and civil society agendas.

Influencing Key
Sectors:

We actively seek to influence both, the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) and labor sectors. Our advocacy efforts are aimed at creating positive changes that benefit sanitation workers and promote their health, safety, and dignity.

Addressing Knowledge
Gaps:

Within the ISW, we play a critical role in addressing knowledge gaps related to sanitation workers' issues. By contributing our insights and experiences from the Global South, we enhance the initiative's effectiveness and relevance.

As an advisory committee member, CLJ is dedicated to making a meaningful impact on the lives and well-being of sanitation workers. We believe that collaboration on a global scale is the key to achieving lasting change, and our involvement in the ISW reflects our unwavering commitment to this cause.
