Vote for
Water

August 2021 (Ongoing)

Our ongoing "Vote for Water" campaign, spearheaded by CLJ's Deputy Director Asif Aqeel in Lahore, Pakistan, is dedicated to raising awareness about the critical issue of clean water access. Supported by End Water Poverty, this campaign encourages residents of minority areas to vote for candidates who prioritize this fundamental human right.

Key highlights of our campaign include:

Community
Participation:

Through the "Vote for Water" campaign, we urge the community to actively engage in local elections. We encourage them to choose representatives who are committed to addressing their water-related concerns, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are met.

Data Collection and
Advocacy:

In 2021, we conducted a survey on water availability in Bahar Colony, a Christian neighborhood. We plan to consolidate this survey data and include insights from additional minority neighborhoods. The findings will be published in a report that will be used for advocacy purposes, helping to drive change and improvements.

Empowerment through
Advocacy:

To further empower the community, we are forming an advocacy group consisting of local residents from minority neighborhoods. This group will play a crucial role in advocating for their water-related issues.

Training for
Empowerment:

We are organizing a one-day training session for the advocacy group. This training will equip them with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively address their water issues and advocate for change within their communities.

Engaging with
Decision-Makers:

As part of our campaign, we are actively engaging with decision-makers, including parliamentarians, political party members, and government officials. Through advocacy meetings, we aim to garner support and push for policies that prioritize clean water access for minority communities.

The "Vote for Water" campaign exemplifies our commitment to ensuring that every individual, regardless of their background, has access to clean and safe water. We believe that by empowering communities and engaging with decision-makers, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who have been underserved for far too long.
